Dr. Melissa-Sue John Joins Insightful Panel at SHIFT Everybody’s Work Documentary Screening

On October 24, 2024, the University of Saint Joseph hosted a remarkable event featuring the screening of SHIFT Everybody’s Work, a documentary by Chad Tingle that examines evolving workplace dynamics. Attendees had the opportunity to reflect on the themes presented in the film and engage with a panel of experts who brought valuable perspectives to the discussion. The event, hosted by Monika Costa, EdD, was moderated by Christiana Best-Giacomini, PhD, who led the audience through an exploration of the film’s themes.

Among the distinguished panelists was Melissa-Sue John, PhD, who was joined by Kim Kim, MSN; Kyesha Buckham, BSN; Krystal Myers, DNP; Lucinda Canty, PhD; Shoushounova Dallas, MSN; and Dani Brochu, DNP. Each panelist contributed unique insights on the changing roles and challenges within their fields, shedding light on the documentary’s message about how shifts in society and culture impact professional environments.

Following the screening and panel discussion, leaders from the Northern Connecticut Black Nurses Association, Inc. and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses’ Hartford Chapter shared their organizations’ missions, emphasizing the importance of community support and professional development within the healthcare sector. The evening concluded with the University of Saint Joseph recognizing its students who were honored with the New England Minority Nurse Leadership Scholarships, celebrating future leaders committed to diversity and excellence in nursing.

This inspiring event reinforced the importance of collective efforts to adapt to change, foster inclusivity, and empower diverse voices in every field. For Dr. John and all participants, the SHIFT Everybody’s Work screening offered a meaningful opportunity to discuss ways we can all contribute to a more equitable and supportive work environment.
