The Tale of Princess Alicia, written by Yvette Phillips and illustrated by Simonne-Anais Clarke, is a short story about a young princess named Alicia who loved to sneak away to spend time outdoors with her animal friends. Her father, King O’Neil, did not allow her to play outside because he and others were afraid of the wicked witch in the woods that liked to capture and eat those who got lost. Princess Alicia, concerned over her missing friends, made her way into the woods to find them but was captured by the witch. Will the wicked witch eat Princess Alicia like she said she would? Would anyone ever find her and save her? Why does the wicked witch do these things in the first place?
The Tale of Princess Alicia by Yvette Phillips is a wonderful children’s tale with a well-laid-out plot that intertwines the past of one kingdom with the future of another. The characters are very easy to understand and relate to. The beautiful illustrations by Simonne-Anais Clarke help tell the story with pictures that complement the words on each page. I love the story of Princess Alicia because it sends a message to children about how hard life can be when we hold on to anger and how important it is to forgive. This wonderful, five-star tale could easily become a child’s favorite bedtime story, whether they read it by themselves or have it read to them. I recommend this story to anyone with children at home and in school.
